Hidden trails through the city, pedestrian paths and urban graffiti were highlights last Thursday as runners sped through Minneapolis for the first ‘CITYTRAIL’ race of the summer.
The Salomon/GearJunkie ‘CITYTRAIL’ Race challenged runners with hidden clues and navigational feats.
More than 50 runners cruised through Minneapolis’ Uptown neighborhood, around area lakes, and down trails on the “choose-your-adventure” open course.
The event was all a part of Salomon’s CityTrail series, which pushes urban runners to get off the pavement and beaten track in search of adventure in the city.
Based from GearJunkie.com HQ on the Greenway Trail, the race had checkpoints, route finding, and urban exploration all as parts of the fun.
Participants tracked their route and hit checkpoints on a 90-minute course, using cluesheets, a race manifest and Salomon’s CityTrail app. The app provides routes, waypoints, and guides to city running experiences.
Want to try it? Download the app for iPhone (get app) or Android (get app) and look up the Minneapolis routes to run the GearJunkie course on your own!
Salomon reps were on site for participants who wanted to demo footwear and gear. Prizes included $1,500+ in Salomon and Suunto products, a gear raffle, and other swag!
After the event runners stayed to celebrate spring in the city with food and drink, a bonfire, and good company under the urban sky.
Beyond the GearJunkie race, Salomon will run another event on May 17th in Minneapolis, the CITYTRAIL Loppet. See all the details here on this second urban trail race.
