The Brunton Revolt 9000 packs the most power into the smallest form factor we’ve tested yet.

The Revolt 9000 from Brunton is the flagship of the company’s consumer line, and rightfully so — it stacks a huge amount of power into a portable, shockproof, and weather-proof package.

It Just Keeps Going, And Going, And Going…

The Revolt 9000 is built from a high-yield, 9000mAh, lithium-ion battery. The exterior is coated with a thick silicone shell that held up to months of heavy use and multiple drops. A small door covers a dual input USB and micro-USB port.

A charge indicator on the top is easy to read and has an array of lights to let you know how much power is left.

A Vibram rubber coating on the bottom grips to smooth surfaces so I didn’t have to worry about it sliding off a car dashboard.

The included three-way dongle cord allows charging of pretty much any modern phone or device. Between the micro USB, Lightning, and 30-pin-to-USB adaptors, you should have all your bases covered.

Three connections

You can charge two phones off the cord at once, which I did with no problems. I have had USB port failures in the past doing this with other chargers, but in my testing this did not cause a problem on the Revolt 9000. I’d keep an eye on it when charging multiple devices anyway.

Ostensibly, you could charge three devices at once, but we didn’t try as we didn’t have a 30-pin phone handy during testing.

More Power With Less Weight

At just 12.6 oz the Revolt offers a huge amount of power in a small package. We consistently got five smartphone charges from the unit, which is more than any other small unit we’ve tested. The company claims you can get up to six charges with some phones.

The Revolt gave us consistent and reliable performance. It has become a must-grab when we’re heading out into the backcountry for an extended amount of time.

For a power-to-weight ratio, we’ve yet to find anything that can match the Revolt 9000. At $100, it’s an investment that’s not going to drain your bank account.

Flaws

I’d like to see an additional USB port. The single port makes it difficult to charge multiple devices at once if they are not able to plug into the three-headed cord.

Additionally, with all that power comes a lengthy recharging time. It takes about 6 hours to fully charge the unit from a wall plugin. If you’re looking for a quick plug and go, the Revolt 9000 probably isn’t your best choice.

If you’re needing a rugged and durable power pack that can keep you charged for days (or weeks) at a time in the backcountry, the Brunton Revolt 9000 is a great option.
