NYC: Kenya’s Kamworor and Jepkosgei Win the 2019 NYC Marathon. Kenyan runners Geoffrey Kamworor and Joyciline Jepkosgei took the podium this Sunday in the New York City Marathon. Kamworor (who set a world record earlier this year for a half-marathon) finished in 2 hours, 8 minutes, 13 seconds.

For the women, Jepkosgei beat out prior champ Mary Keitany with a time of 2 hours, 22 minutes, 38 seconds. (Keitany won the NYC Marathon in 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2018, so this was a huge win for 26-year-old Jepkosgei.)

FKT: Alex Elizabeth Sets Record on Superior Hiking Trail. Last week, Alex Elizabeth set a new FKT on the Superior Hiking Trail with a time of 6 days, 12 hours, 32 minutes. Her second try for an FKT, her time is the fastest supported female record and second-fastest time overall. She completed the route southbound.

ICF PADDLEBOARDING: China Hosts ICF SUP Championships. Last weekend, 18 countries participated in the International Canoe Federation’s SUP World Championships. This was the first year of the event, as last year’s was canceled.

Japan and Australia led the competition with seven and four gold medals, respectively. Fiona Wylde — currently ranked third in the APP SUP World Tour — represented the U.S., along with Kristin Thomas and Connor Baxter.

BOY SCOUTS: Boy Scouts of America Will Increase Membership Fee by Over 80 Percent. The organization announced last week that the annual membership youth fees would increase due to “financial challenges,” according to the BSA Council.

As of January 1, the annual membership fee for millions of youth members will rise from $33 to $60. Also, the fee for adults will rise from $33 to $36. The organization still offers financial support.

IFSC WORLD CUP: Climbing Champions Announced, on to Olympic Qualifiers. Last week’s final IFSC World Cup in Japan determined the 2019 climbing champions for this year.

After 7 months of competitions, Korean Chaehyun Seo and Czech Adam Ondra became the overall 2019 lead climbing champions. Jain Kim from Korea and Hiroto Shimizu from Japan took home the gold in the final lead competitions in Inzai. Slovenia’s Janja Garnbret and Japan’s Tomoa Narasaki placed for the Combined podium.

GET LOST: ‘The Adventurists’ Announces Multiple 2020 Rickshaw Runs. The Rickshaw Run first launched in 2006 and is the original adventure. Participants race in rickshaws for 3,000 km down the west coast of India. There’s no route: just a start line and a finish line, and you and your rickshaw.

The January 2020 run already sold out, but there are events in April and August as well. The Adventurists company also hosts events like the Mongol Rally, a 10,000-mile intercontinental motorcar adventure. To find out more, click here.
