Virbam has conquered barefoot running with its FiveFingers shoes. The bulk of high-end mountaineering boots bear the Vibram brand name on their soles. What’s next? How about Vibram Disc Golf?
The company has decided to take on another game. This summer, Vibram will release a line of rubber golf discs, including putters and a mini marker disc. Product launch will coincide with the Vibram Open disc-golf tournament in Lancaster, Mass., this weekend (August 13 – 15, 2010).
Most discs on the market are made from a flexible, soft plastic. But Vibram thinks its rubber X-Link discs — touted to have a “stronger memory” to return to shape faster — will find a place in the niche sport. For anyone who throw a disc like me (straight at the nearest obstacle) this could be a boon.
The discs’ X-Link material is a tough rubber-based compound that resists scuffs and has “unequaled” grip, says the company. The putter discs will retail for $17.95; the mini marker disc, $3.95. They will soon be available at Pinnacle retail stores and disc golf shops across the country.
