‘Fleeting Time’ follows Ben Ferguson’s journey to the top of big-mountain boarding — and highlights the gnarly descents he’s made from there. ‘About Time’ takes us behind the scenes of that new film.

Everybody starts somewhere. Pro snowboarder and Red Bull Athlete Ben Ferguson started in Bend, Ore. He was 6 years old when he stepped into board bindings for the very first time. Just 2 years later, he was already competing in halfpipe competitions. And he did well.

So well, in fact, that by age 19, he’d caught the attention of Travis Rice, another pro snowboarder. Rice called him up and told him to get his ass to Jackson Hole to come ride in Rice’s film “The Fourth Phase.” (If you haven’t seen it yet, stop reading immediately and go watch.)

Now, Ferguson has made his own big-time big-mountain Red Bull snowboard film, called “Fleeting Time.” The film follows the pro athlete’s journey from Bend, from the amateur competitions his parents filmed him in back in the day, to the backcountry, where he made his name.

“Fleeting Time” may be Ferguson’s magnum opus. But the behind-the-scenes series “About Time” details how his masterpiece sausage was made. Red Bull interviewed Ferguson, Rice, Hailey Langland, and others about the making of “Fleeting Time.” It’s the story behind the story, casting a bright light on the future of big-mountain snowboarding.

“About Time” is premiering on Red Bull TV before the October North American film tour of “Fleeting Time.” That will also be available for free on Red Bull TV, following the tour, Nov. 3-6.
