New Winter Apparel

Here are some highlights from this season’s snow kits and gear available at REI Co-op.

REI Co-op 650 Down Jacket — Men’s & Women’s: $130

Bundle up for crisp air, crunchy leaves, and chilly walks in the REI Co-op men’s 650 Down jacket. This everyday jacket puts 650-fill power down to work keeping you warm — and its windproof, water-resistant shell is made with recycled materials. The jacket has two zippered hand pockets, drop-in pockets, and a drawcord hem for a snug fit around the waist. Total weight: 10.9 ounces.

686 SMARTY 3-in-1 Cargo Pant: $230

These 3-in-1 pants include a shell infiDRY Duracore 20k fabric with 20,000mm/15,000g waterproofing and breathability. Underneath, the removable Smarty stretch polyester fleece liner pants provide warmth on the slopes and can be worn on their own during apres.

Mesh-lined inner leg vents help let in cooling air when needed. There’s an external waist adjustment, a stash pocket along the seam, and coated-section kick panels to hold up to abrasion and heavy use. Additionally, the leg gaiters are compatible with BOA boots.

Picture Organic Object Jacket & Snow Pants — Men’s: $335 & $230

The Object Jacket features a waterproof/breathable (20k/20k) membrane reinforced with a PFC-free DWR treatment and body-mapped insulation in the layer beneath it. For a more weather-tight fit, the jacket’s hood, cuffs, and drawcord hem are all adjustable. It has two chest pockets for stashing gear behind waterproof zips, plus you can warm your hands in pockets with reversed zips under the flaps, and there’s a dedicated ski pass pocket, too.

Additionally, there’s a stretch snow skirt and spandex gaiters and the jacket and pants fit together with the brand’s I-fit system interface.

The Object Snow Pants are made from bluesign-approved polyester for waterproof/breathable protection, in addition to the fully taped seams and DWR coating. Underneath, there’s 40g of recycled thermal insulation. If things get too warm, thigh zips let air out and help your skin breathe.

Picture Organic Oroya Jacket — Women’s: $265

On the coldest downhill days, the Oroya insulated jacket can protect from wind and the elements with its breathable membrane, while mapping recycled insulation in the body (225g), sleeves (130g), and hood (60g).

The hood, cuffs, and hem all offer features to get the fit close so snow doesn’t get in, while several pockets offer places to stash gloves, a pass, and a built-in goggle cleaner.

Oboz Bridger Insulated B-DRY — Men’s & Women’s: $210

This winterized take on Oboz’s popular Bridger boot includes a 200g insulation lining, wool-topped footbeds, and cold-weather-specific rubber outsoles infused with silica for added grip. The uppers are made with waterproof nubuck leather and further protected with an Oboz B-DRY waterproof/breathable membrane.

Smith Method MIPS Snow Helmet: $140

This one-piece helmet with in-mold construction helps keep the weight down, while still offering Zonal Koroyd coverage and MIPS protection. The ventilation system (8 vents) integrates with Smith goggles to reduce the odds of foggy lenses. Smith also uses a “self-adjusting” fit system that flexes to match the shape of your head.

This 3-layer DryVent seam-sealed hardshell jacket rocks a print by snowboarder Cole Navin splashed across it. There’s also an adjustable, helmet-friendly hood, pit zips for dumping heat, and a fixed powder skirt. It has two chest pockets with YKK zips to protect your smartphone and other valuables, and the right chest pocket includes a media port.

Burton Prowess Insulated Jacket — Women’s: $140 (50% Off)

The women’s Prowess uses Burton’s DRYRIDE waterproof/breathable shell with fully taped seams to protect riders from wind and snow while offering warmth via its Thermolite insulation. Sherpa fleece lines the collar for a touch of warmth and comfort. The jacket also has lined handwarmer pockets, a Therma-Pocket for keeping a smartphone warm, and several other stash/zippered pockets.

Another standout feature is the jacket’s “Living Lining” which Burton says will shrink or expand to retain or release body heat for a new take on thermal regulation.

Designed in collaboration with pro rider Marie-France Roy, the Arbor Veda women’s freeride snowboard gets design cues to match her big mountain style with an emphasis on float, powerful turns, and edge hold. For instance, the System Camber makes for a less aggressive leading edge while its parabolic design gradually reduces the camber toward the tip and tail.
