Keystone Resort in Summit County, Colorado, is not only open for business but it also just announced some new skiable terrain.
Keystone Resort just celebrated its opening weekend, but there’s more to come. The U.S. Forest Service just approved the Colorado resort to expand to more terrain.
Currently, Keystone Resort offers more than 3,000 skiable acres. Its new plan to “upgrade the mountain” would, once finalized, provide lift-served skiing to both Bergman and Erickson bowls. The inclusion will add roughly 16 trails and 50 acres of new terrain as well as infrastructure like a ski patrol hut.
The resort requires approval from the Forest Service for expansion because it’s part of the White River National Forest. After this initial approval, the proposal moves into a 45-day objection period for public comment. After that, the USFS will issue a final decision on the proposal.
“Our draft decision strikes a balance between protecting sensitive resources like wetlands while providing expanded recreational and economic opportunities at this popular ski resort,” said Acting Forest Supervisor Lisa Stoeffler.
“These improvements would be in an area already being used by skiers that is within Keystone’s permitted boundary.”
