Fenway Big Air Snowboard

Yep, you read that right: Boston, Mass. The Polartec Big Air will kick off as one of the most unique ski and snowboard competitions of all time today and Friday. Competing in a baseball stadium on a 140-foot high snow ramp (that’s 100 percent man-made), competitors will show off their skills to a stadium full of fans before concerts by bands Bad Rabbits (tonight) and American Authors (Friday).

Check out this video posted today of the practice session on the massive jump.

Among the competitors launching off a ramp four times the height of Fenway Park’s famed left field wall are U.S. Olympic slopestyle skiing gold medalist Joss Christensen, slopestyle snowboarding Olympic champion Sage Kotsenburg, and Olympian Ty Walker plus an elite group of Olympians and Olympic hopefuls.

The event, Polartec Big Air at Fenway, is an officially sanctioned U.S. Grand Prix Tour event. Tickets are on sale on redsox.com/bigairIt is one of only three tour stops on the 2016 FIS calendar.

Big air events consist of snowboarders and skiers competing with a single trick off a ramp similar to those seen on slopestyle courses. Men’s and women’s big air snowboarding will debut at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea.
