A popular power station needs an update — or it could cause fires and potential burn injuries.
That’s the message from Goal Zero, which announced a recall last week for 46,200 units of the Yeti 3000X. This $3,000 power station, which is currently sold out on the Goal Zero website, has a risk of overheating and causing potential burn injuries or starting fires, according to an announcement from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
These large-capacity power stations are often popular among van lifers, or those who want backup power at home. An even larger version of the Yeti 3000X earned a spot in GearJunkie’s guide to the Best Power Stations.
So far, no injuries have been reported in relation to this issue. However, Goal Zero has received four reports of the affected power stations catching fire, overheating, and smoking. But there does seem to be an easy fix. Owners of affected power stations should stop using them immediately and install a firmware update through the Goal Zero app, the brand said. Alternatively, owners can contact Goal Zero directly if they’re unsure how to obtain the update.

You can find instructions for verifying the model of your Goal Zero power station on the recall page of the brand’s website. The same page also includes a link and instructions for the firmware update designed to address the issue.
The recall affects all Yeti 3000X power stations sold online or in stores from May 2020 through August 2025, including those bought from REI, Costco, Backcountry, or the Goal Zero site.
Since the fix involves a firmware update, there’s no need to take the power station to a physical location. A full description of the power station is below:
“This recall involves Goal Zero’s YETI 3000X power stations. The silver and black portable power stations measure about 24.4 inches high, 18.5 inches wide and 22.3 inches deep, and weigh about 92 pounds. The power stations have yellow handles and a digital display at the front with electrical ports. They sit on a rolling cart with two built-in wheels and a telescoping handle. The Goal Zero logo is printed on the front bar of the cart and on a nameplate located on the underside of the station’s lid along with YETI 3000X.”
