Twitter in the BC — Send a Tweet from the backcountry — or blip out an SOS signal. A to-be-released GPS communicator product does both. (See full Gear Junkie article on product here.) The device — official name: DeLorme Earthmate PN-60w with SPOT Satellite Communicator — is the “first handheld GPS navigation device capable of sending customized text messages,” according to a press release. Available in May for $549.95. www.delorme.com

Fancy Feet — Go back to the future with the retro Five Tennie, an outdoors-oriented tennis shoe that mimics a model released in 1985. Five Ten, an outdoors/climbing-shoe company, touts its namesake Five Tennie as having a “Spiderman sticky” sole for better grip on the trail. Available this spring for about $70. www.fiveten.com
