With as many collabs as there are movies, Columbia continues its annual launch of Star Wars-themed apparel.
May the Force be with you … and the good times, too. For the fifth time in as many years, Columbia is launching a Star Wars collection, as the famed sci-fi franchise continues to grow across generations.
But this year’s drop comes with a twist — kind of a pineapple, coconut, luau twist. That’s right, unlike winter gear launches of years past, Columbia this year releases the summer Outer Rim Collection. And while it’s not packed with the variety of styles we’ve seen previously, the collection offers up an entirely new take on the collaboration.
Part of Columbia’s PFG (performance fishing gear) line, the Outer Rim Collection includes three silhouettes — women’s, kid’s, and men’s — of a Hawaiian-print, button-up shirt.
But in place of the typical hibiscus flowers and palm leaves, this print includes TIE fighters, stormtroopers, X-Wings — even the Millennium Falcon and Darth Vader himself all hiding in Endor-like foliage.
All styles use Columbia’s Omni-Shade tech, a UPF-40 polyester. It also includes the brand’s proprietary Omni-Wick antimicrobial treatment, which works to help reduce odors. And, of course, being a fishing shirt, a Velcro rod holder.
Columbia Outer Rim Collection
We’ve been wearing a prerelease men’s shirt to get a feel for the shirt — and the vibe. First off, the style is fire and perhaps our favorite (if not most utilitarian) release yet.
The shirt feels almost silky but is well-suited to summer events. For outdoor barbecues or days on the beach, the UPF-40 material works as advertised. And mesh hits along the chest pockets, along with the vented back panel, help keep you cool.
If there’s a drawback, it’s the sizing. Our size large feels more like an XL or small galaxy. So if you’re getting this as a gift, check on sizing down.
The line includes a sleeveless option for women and a unisex kid’s shirt. The Outer Rim Collection costs $45-65. Check it out here.
