The brand known for hard work and tough tasks now wants to show off its softer side.

For all the things a Leatherman multitool can do, fixing a tear in your clothes might be the one thing it can’t. That may soon change now that the Portland manufacturer of everyday-carry necessities dabbles in apparel.

Launched this month, Leatherman’s first-ever clothing line consists of three styles of tops, with various designs within each style. And, like its tools, Leatherman makes every product in the new apparel line in the U.S. — and with American-sourced cotton.

Leatherman Apparel

Leatherman’s apparel line consists of a short-sleeve tee, a long-sleeve tee, and (our favorite) a heavyweight hoodie. We received a sample of each and can attest the shirts look and feel well-made.

And while they’re not as cheap some off-the-shelf shirts from big-box stores, they’re priced in line with what you might expect from a durable, made-in-America product. The short-sleeve tees cost $35, the long-sleeve tee costs $45, and the big, heavyweight hoodies will set you back $95.

That’s thanks, in part, to the materials and manufacturing. All the cotton used for the apparel comes from Texas, and the fiber is knit, cut, and sewn in the Carolinas — with American labor.

“Each detail has been accounted for, from the ribbed collars and cuffs to maintain their shape to the custom drawcords and hardware on our hoodies,” the brand said. “All of this to make sure you enjoy our gear for years to come.”

Here’s a peek at the entire Leatherman apparel line.

Leatherman Pullover Hoodies — Heritage Badge & Basics: $95

Leatherman hoodies

Heavyweight fleece from a cotton-poly blend, this pullover hoodie has a kangaroo pocket and cinchable hood. You can get it in Leatherman Badge or Basics designs. We’ve worn it and attest it’s a heavy-duty piece. This will work great for working under the car or in the shop, where sharp edges abound. The hoodies are available in gray and black.

Leatherman Basics Long Sleeve Tee: $45

Leatherman Basics Long Sleeve Tee

Not too hot but not too cold, the Basics Long Sleeve Tee keeps you covered in a less-burly package than the hoodie. It sports an embroidered logo on the cuff and comes in three colors. Both black and green are 100% cotton, and the gray shirt is a cotton-poly blend. And, of course, the front pocket begs to have a multitool clipped in.

Leatherman Short Sleeve Tees — Heritage Badge & PST Heritage: $35

Rounding out the collection are two short-sleeve tees made with reinforced stitching and “high-strength durable thread.” Choose from the Heritage Badge (like the hoodie) and PST Heritage (a nod to the iconic tool) designs. These shirts are available in black, yellow, and gray.
