I am an essayist, journalist, and travel writer with a passion for exploring remote, beautiful places. I spent a year backpacking the world solo, which taught me what gear you really need — and all the things you can live without. My favorite places I’ve hiked around the world include the lava fields of Hawaii, the seaside hills of Sicily, a New Zealand volcano, and Iceland’s glaciers. Born and raised in the foothills of Upstate New York, I spent my youth wandering the forests and farms around my house, letting my imagination run wild, which is probably why I’m now a writer.
