According to reports, the motorcycle experienced a mechanical problem along one of the closed-course bottlenecks, resulting in a massive collection. No official word on injuries, but the Gothamist has reported at least seven riders were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

In the on-board camera from one rider, it’s evident that the initial collisions with the motorcycle were significant.

The Red Hook Criterium is a traveling, four-event circuit of road races for fixed-gear, brakeless bicycles. It is an unsanctioned event without insurance for rider injuries or accidents.
