Light and strong are two words usually not used together when talking about bike locks. Urban cyclists carry hefty U-locks or big chains that can weigh up to 7 pounds to keep their bikes safe.
A U.K. company is hoping to change that with a flexible and light alternative.
The Litelok is a product designed to be lighter than any bike chain and more flexible than a U-lock. It provides the same security as many heavy-duty locks, the company touts.
At 2.2 pounds, the Litelok is one-third the weight of some chain locks from Kryponite and others, and it’s also lighter than many U-locks.
It can withstand a “prolonged attack” by bolt cutters or a hacksaw for up to five minutes, Litelok says.
