The world’s best mountain bikers descended on Virgin, Utah, to tackle a course so outlandish that even Red Bull organizers called it “impassable.”

The video above captures what might have been the most heart-stopping route choice of the entire Red Bull Rampage.

Incredible Runs

American Kyle Strait somehow kept the rubber side down, teetering along singletrack 100 feet-high and launching off improvised dirt ramps between plateaus.

His fearless tabletops and flips weren’t enough to podium, however. Top honors went to Candian Brandon Semenuk, who became the third rider in the event’s 11-year history to win twice.

Red Bull Rampage

The annual event is one of Red Bull’s most prestigious competitions. It has been adopted by riders as the “most coveted freeride mountain biking championship” in the world.

This year’s Rampage took place in a new location, just 15 miles west of Zion National Park. In an effort to “up the ante,” the first-of-its-kind course was constructed without any power tools or artificial terrain. Nothing but shovels, dirt, and sandbags were used.

Leading up to this year’s Rampage, the course and some of the riders’ chosen routes were deemed “impassable” by organizers. Further construction ensued, raising landing platforms to meet the 30+ foot drops riders took on.

Strait’s video proves this is definitely a best-of-the-best affair.
