‘The Canyon by Canoe’ is an ode to both the history of the canoeing and the crazy future the sport holds.

At the start of October 2019, a group of eight Canadians got a permit to paddle the Grand Canyon. And they decided to do it in 17-foot tripping canoes, unsupported from rafts or any other resupplies.

Their boats are chock-full, their GoPros are strapped on, and the river is running high. And now, you can watch the video that documents the canoeists’ crazy attempt.

The video does not disappoint — it’s full of rushing waters, massive pool-drop rapids, and lots of self-rescues and laughs. Originally, the group of twentysomethings didn’t even set out to break a record; they were there purely to canoe and have fun.

“Out of the 26 days and numerous massive rapids, there were only 11 capsizes!” wrote the crew happily in a trip description. According to the team and film crew, this was the first self-supported tandem canoe descent of the Grand Canyon.
