The Oetz Trophy Extreme Kayak Championships are this weekend. It’s sure to be a good time, and one of the ways you can prep is with a little background info on the river itself. To that end, check out this eight-part series from NRS and the Austrian conservation group WET.

The 1-minute films shed light on plans to dam and divert the Oetz River to create hydroelectricity in Austria’s Tyrol region. As always with this sort of thing, there are strong feelings on both sides. But the experts and conservationists NRS assembled for its Save the Oetz films make a compelling case against the plans.

Give the films a watch and see what you think. If you’re convinced, head over to WET’s website and sign the petition against the expansion of the Kaunertal power plant. WET is only 8,000 signatures shy of meeting its 40,000-signature goal. Then kick back and settle in for a weekend of gnarly sends.

The comp posted a ton of highlight reels to its YouTube channel last year, and we expect this year will be no different. Go subscribe so you don’t miss anything!
