From the mind of producer and all around outdoor adventure nut Fitz Cahall, the dirtbag diaries cover a variety of topics from the outdoor world. With subjects ranging from the “modern dirtbag” to rafting the Colorado river, it will stoke you to strike out on the road.

The Season

Cahall and filmmaker Bryan Smith teamed up for The Season, which traces a group of five athletes through their respective sporting seasons. This experiment in grassroots storytelling unfortunately came to an end in 2011 but the archives are excellent.

When a podcast’s tagline is “Less Gear More Beer!” you know it’s going to be entertaining. Covering everything gear (and beer) related, this Colorado based podcast is a great resource for hiking and backpacking tips, plus finding some new and delicious suds. New episodes come out every month.

The First 40 Miles

the-first-40-miles-

This one’s for the newbie backpackers in our midst, those “people in love with backpacking or madly in love with someone who wants you to love backpacking.” It gives tips on subjects like backpacking with your kids, trail nutrition and pooping in the woods. If you’re just taking your first steps into the backpacking world, this is a great resource.

The Pox and Puss Podcast – An Appalachian Trail Thru Hiker Experience:

pox-and-puss

The Appalachian Through Hiking Experience has been unpacked, dissected and elaborated on by Pox and Puss, the hosts of this slightly off-color podcast. If you’ve ever hiked (or aspired to hike) the AT, you’ll no doubt find some kinship with the hosts and the community that this podcast has built around it. Don’t crank this one up at the office as the language is a little coarse.
