REI Trail Pod Sleeping Bag Review:

REI Trail Pod Sleeping Bag review

I will admit, the $80 price tag had me a little skeptical as I climbed into the Trail Pod for the first time. The air temp was 34 degrees and the windchill was 25-degrees. I expected to wake up cold and sad. I even had an emergency puffy and another set of long underwear waiting in the tent.

To my surprise, I was warm all night. This was a rarity for me as I am a cold sleeper. Several other nights of car camping yielded the same results — warm and cozy.

What I Liked

For $80, it is approachable for those camping for the first time. It’s a budget bag, but it’s not going to fail after a few uses. It’s very roomy all around, which makes it good for people who want some space to move as they sleep.

REI Trail Pod Sleeping Bag Cinch CordsThere are two cinch cords on the hood that can tighten the bag around your face or your neck. REI used two different types of cords, one round and one flat, so you know which is which in the middle of the night.

What I Didn’t Like

The bag could be lighter, but it’s not meant for backpacking. For $the price, I didn’t expect it to be ultralight.

Who Should Buy It?

This REI bag is perfect for anyone looking to car camp or sleep in their vehicle. This spacious sleeping bag is designed with warmth and comfort as top priorities. It’s nearly three pounds and shouldn’t be carried deep into the wilderness.

It could also be a bag to keep in the car for nights spent at the trail head, or as a loaner bag for a friend or relative.
