Beginning today, Minnesota plays host to one of the largest outdoor scavenger hunts in the world.
Checkpoint MN launches today, and it includes more than $45,000 in prizes and 10 checkpoints scattered at outdoors destinations around the state.
The event is a do-it-yourself adventure. Anyone eligible can participate. Earn prizes by traveling to checkpoints, taking photos of yourself with checkpoint signs, and uploading them to the site.
A gallery of all check-in photos will be featured on CheckpointMN.com. See all the information and rules here.
The event is produced by Monopoint Media, a sister company of GearJunkie, and the State of Minnesota via its Explore Minnesota Tourism arm. It runs from Dec 15, 2016, to Feb 12, 2017.
Checkpoint Minnesota: Do-It-Yourself Adventure
Last year, hundreds of people made the trip to visit checkpoints around Minnesota. The event awarded gear and prizes to everyone who participated.
A major prize page anchors the event and gives an incentive for folks to get off the couch and outside this winter. This year, the major sponsors include The-House.com, Headsweats, and Framed Bikes.
Being a Minnesota event, several companies based in the state joined in on the fun and offered great gear to fellow Minnesotans including ALTAI, Katadyn, Banjo Brothers, Granite Gear, and more.
To round it all out, a bunch of other outdoor brands offered gear ranging from jackets to sleeping bags to boots and more. A big thanks to all who stepped up to encourage winter adventures: Big Agnes, Danner, Fischer, The North Face, KEEN, Clif Bar, FireDisc, EnerPlex, YETI, Wolverine, BUFF, STIHL, Mountain Khakis, LifeStraw, and more.
