La Sportiva Mythos Eco Review: $155

For 2017, La Sportiva remade its iconic Mythos shoe. Dubbed the Mythos Eco, it boasts a gamut of recycled material, and responsibly sourced manufacturing.

Ninety-five-percent of the shoe is from recycled materials. The laces, soles, ribbons, tongue, and rubber are all recycled. The tanning is done metal-free with biodegradable leather, and water-based adhesives keep it all together. Named Eco-Rubber, the sticky rubber is made from the rubber recycled with other shoes at La Sportiva.

Not to mention, the Mythos Eco still has the same tried-and-true design. The laces wrap around the heel for increased support, and the leather upper hugs the foot, making it great for crack climbing.

The rubber may not be as bomber as the brand’s $200 shoes, but after a few days at the crag, you won’t be able to tell the difference. You’ll just be climbing.

In an age where climbing shoe performance between one year’s models and the next is more and more imperceptible, a shoe with proven features like the Mythos makes it a standout pick. It’s available for men and women.
