Mammut climber Maddy Cope rediscovers and revitalizes her local crags — for the benefit of both the environment and the local climbing community.
Coming full circle, Cope takes us to a beautiful climbing area in North Wales where her climbing career ultimately began. She’s had a long climbing journey since those early days. But now she’s a professionally sponsored athlete — one who wants to preserve and protect the crags she loves.
“We have these amazing sea cliffs. And they’re a feature that so many of the climbers here in the UK, including myself, love to enjoy,” stated Cope.
Cope collaborated with professional sports photographer Lena Drapella for this Mammut project. Together, they demonstrate how protecting nearby crags strengthens climbing communities and also lowers CO2 emissions. It’s something Cope is dedicated to doing.
“We can’t get away from the fact that we all have an impact,” she said. “And by going climbing we have an impact, and there is often travel involved in climbing.”
