As spring delivers sunshine and slushy snow, many outdoor enthusiasts turn their attention to warm-season activities such as mountain biking and climbing. Skiing recedes to the back of the mind, dormant until awakened by fresh stoke in fall.
As savvy shoppers know, the end of ski season also marks the beginning of excellent prices on winter gear. The end of ski season is the best time to buy your kit for next winter.
This week, check out some of our favorite currently discounted ski and snowboard staples.
POC Obex Pure Helmet: $105 (30% Off)
This affordable helmet is one of the very best ski and snowboard helmets of the 2022-2023 season. Though we technically tested the more expensive Obex MIPS (also on sale now), we were most impressed by the helmet’s ventilation, comfort, and adjustability — all of which are identical in the non-MIPS version.
The wide fixed goggle clip can accommodate a range of straps, which are secured via an elastic pull-and-hook closure. For warmer climates, the ear pads of the Obex can be easily removed for extra ventilation and comfort. Plus, the size range includes “broader shapes” to accommodate rounder heads.
Shop NowJones Mountain Twin Snowboard: $385 (30% Off)
I personally believe that Jones’ best products are its powder-specific, blunt-nosed snowboard shapes. Still, the consistently impressive brand also makes solid all-mountain options. We named the Mountain Twin among the very best all-mountain shapes of 2022-2023.
With a traditional camber-under-foot profile and medium flex, this board can carve on ice, play in the park, and even float through powder in style. When charging at speed, the Mountain Twin offers a damp yet responsive ride, likely due to the high-quality semi-stiff wood core. For a board that’s this capable at speed, we appreciate that it can be playful when called upon. It’s an excellent value at $385.
Currently, the Mountain Twin’s lighter and more precise sibling — the Mountain Twin Ultra — is also available for 30% off.
Shop NowBlack Crows Corvus Ski: $800 (20% Off)
Hailing from the mountain sports capital of Chamonix, cottage ski brand Black Crows is known for its aggressive and capable planks. Black Crows haven’t been available in the U.S. for long, but they’ve quickly grown into a leading brand, especially among the touring crowd.
The Corvus skis are ideal for hard-charging at high speeds on groomed surfaces. Though the Corvus thrives on piste, it’s designed for varied use — powder, big mountain, touring — it isn’t overly specialized. At over 4 pounds per ski, it’s a touch heavy for backcountry use, but it’ll still work in a pinch. As of today, three sizes are available for $200 off: 176, 183, and 193 cm.
Shop NowSweet Protection Boondock RIG Reflect BLI Goggles: $176 (20% Off)
Here at GearJunkie, we test dozens of ski goggles every winter. Year to year, we notice trends in brand quality, durability, and performance. Sweet Protection regularly ranks among our top peaks in the goggle and helmet categories.
Now, the brand’s Boondock RIG Reflect BLI Goggles are on sale for $45 off. These are simple nonflashy goggles, but they’re equipped with the kind of no-nonsense tech that defines Sweet Protection. The hydrophobic outer lenses boost contrast, while the inner acetate lens “fights fog” to preserve optimal clarity. According to the brand, the Boondock Rig goggles are best for people with small and medium faces.
