The latest issue of Wend magazine features a cover story about Team GearJunkie.com in this year’s Wenger Patagonian Expedition Race, which took place in February. The article, written by Chelsey Gribbon, the female contingent of Team GJ, documents her unbelievable last-minute medical emergency days before the race began (you have to read it to find out) and the race itself, which was a week-long adventure through Chile’s far-south Tierra del Fuego region.
Team GearJunkie.com included Gribbon, Stephen Regenold (“Gear Junkie”), Jason Magness, and Daniel Staudigel. A shade over 5-feet tall, Ms. Gribbon’s level of toughness borders on ridiculous. In addition to the usual struggles of the race, she had the physical and mental burden of a serious medical condition to deal with during the event. Her story walks you through the whole scary ordeal as well as the beauty, suffering and rawness of what some call the “toughest adventure race in the world.”
The story also features my images, including the cover shot. My time spent in Patagonia reporting on the race was one of my most amazing experiences ever in the outdoors. The untouched wildness of the place was beyond words in many ways.
On Wendmag.com, you’ll need to create an account to read the story and view the images online, but it takes only a few seconds. For more info on the race — and more photos — visit our WPER Channel on Gear Junkie.
