More than 200,000 people have run in a Ragnar Relay race since its founding in 2004. This year, the organization is heading off the road with a new series of trail-running relay events.
The series — official name: Ragnar Trail Relays presented by Salomon — kicks off in Utah on April 26th. The race format pits teams of 8 or 4 runners against a 120-mile course.

As a relay, each person on a team runs a segment before “passing the baton” off to the next runner. There’s a central hub camp area where teams hang out, sleep (some), cheer racers on, and roast marshmallows around bonfires to get sugared-up before their turn.

Team GearJunkie will be running in the Ragnar Trail Tahoe, held in late July. Stay tuned for a contest where we will partner with Salomon and Suunto to send two readers to California with the team to run in the Tahoe event!

See here for the full nationwide schedule. Six Ragnar Trail Relays will be held in 2013, from Utah, California, Arizona, to West Virginia.

For anyone who loves trail or ultra running and wants to share the experience in a unique team format. . . the Ragnar Trail Relays could be your game.
