The 5Point Film Festival showcases top adventure films each spring. For 2019, these three films stood out.
Each spring, the 5Point Film Festival brings together creative minds, incredible storytellers, world-class athletes, and inspiring personalities to the community of Carbondale, Colo. The festival showcases this beautiful goal to attendees during 4 days of films.
“Stories of adventure have the power to ignite positive change in our communities and our world. Through adventure, we find our best selves and encourage those around us to do the same,” 5Point says on its website.
GearJunkie had the opportunity to attend the festival and get to know the filmmakers, athletes, and personalities. Their films both entertain and share important, poignant stories. Best of all, you can view our top picks from the comfort of your couch. However, after a 5Point binge, we guarantee you’ll be too stoked to sit there long.
‘Blue’
“Blue” is a stunning short film shot by an all-female production crew about women fat biking in Alaska. It’s produced by Lee Hart of the Valdez Adventure Alliance and directed by Aly Nicklas of Ursa Major.
We sat down with the “Blue” team and learned a ton about the project. Sending it down a glacier and dreaming big? Yes, please.

The jaw-dropping scenery and inside look at the emerging sport of fatter tires on glaciated terrain (along with an adorable little girl wearing a tutu on her bike) is a vehicle for this film’s message about the importance of dreaming beyond our current boundaries. Enjoy the whole short below.
‘The Mystery of Now’
Artist Douglas Miles paints skateboards. He adorns this medium of choice with powerful graphics inspired by the heritage of his people on the San Carlos Apache Reservation in Arizona. This gritty, short documentary portrays his work and involvement in the community as it grows the sport of skateboarding into an outlet for youth on the reservation.
We had a chance to sit down with Miles at 5Point and discuss his motivation for the film. Check out our exclusive interview below.

‘Can’t Ski Vegas’
A crew of best friends heads north to Alaska for a bachelor party. The goal: ski the biggest lines away from the crowds. Ultimately, they encounter more bad weather and big laughs than powder days. But the crew walks away with a crowd-pleasing short comedy that will inspire your next weekend away with your friends far more than “The Hangover” ever will.
It’s one heck of a fun idea. Learn more about the inspiration for the video in our interview below.
