Jeep’s first world-market vehicle to not gulp dino juice is the battery-electric (BEV) 2024 Wagoneer S. It officially debuts today, and should hit dealers in the U.S. and Canada this fall. And, pricing for the top-spec Launch Edition starts at $72K.

And, maybe even more importantly, it looks like Wagoneer S Trailhawk is coming. Jeep Trail Rated BEV action is coming soon!

“The launch of the all-electric Jeep Wagoneer S marks a new chapter in the storied history of the Jeep brand,” said Antonio Filosa, Jeep brand CEO.

“Building upon nearly a century of innovation and design, this first global EV will introduce a whole new generation of owners to an experience that is distinctly Jeep and 100% electric in every way. With new energy in the Jeep vehicle lineup, ranging from EV to V-8, customers have never had more freedom to choose their own adventure.”

(Note: Jeep’s first BEV was last year’s Avenger, but that’s not a vehicle for the North American market.)

Wagoneer S Styling

As with the first Wagoneer in 1963, this new era of Wagoneer personifies the luxury SUV. This generation of electric-powered Wagoneer, however, has a much sportier feel.

Efficiency matters with EVs, and Jeep has made the Wagoneer S the slipperiest through-the-air vehicle to ever come out of its factories. It only has a coefficient of drag (CD) of 0.29. Jeep says that it “is the lowest CD ever for a Jeep vehicle and approximately 15% better than the average SUV.”

A number of body features highly control the airflow around the Wagoneer S. These start with the reimagined iconic “seven-slot” grille, which is smooth rather than open, as no engine cooling airflow is needed, and stylized with lighting. Flush door handles, curved body panels, underbody shields, front tire spats, integrated fins, sloping roof, and rear wing all contribute to aerodynamic efficiency.

The sleek looks give the latest Jeep a very sporty/muscular look. The styling is for sure more urban and on-road oriented than the rugged off-road look most Jeep vehicles personify. That is furthered by the dark accents featured on the Launch Edition. This includes 20-inch Gloss Black wheels.

Luxury EV SUV Interior

The inside is more luxurious than sporty. However, the optional “Radar Red” interior adds a sporty option.

No matter red or black interior, the twin-spoke and flat-bottomed steering wheel gets wine red stitching, hinting at the Wagoneer S’s performance capabilities. The wheel is also covered in a new anti-microbial “Cabo vinyl.”

A super-cool feature in the 2024 Wagoneer S Launch Edition is heated and ventilated front and rear seats. Having both those features in the rear seats is nearly unheard of. The front two seats also get massage and memory and are 12-way power adjustable with four-way power lumbar adjustability.

Unlike some new EVs, the new Jeep still has a start button. However, it also has electronic door releases for the first time, which is a departure from the mechanical mechanisms we’re used to on Jeeps.

As with so many luxury-oriented modern vehicles, especially EVs, the Wagoneer S comes with a customizable LED interior lighting system. Jeep says it has “daytime/nighttime settings, plus active, direct ambient lighting with up to 64 selectable colors.”

The cargo room isn’t large. Up front, you get a tiny 3-cubic-foot frunk. Behind the second row, you get 30.6 cubic feet of cargo volume.

Luxury Tech

The interior is dominated by a “cross-car wing sculpture with a visually continuous display that spans the entire width of the front instrument panel with wine red accent stitching and chiseled metal decorative trim.” Jeep says that gets 45 inches of usable screen space. That’s broken up as a 12.3-inch driver cluster, 12.3-inch center display, 10.25-inch front interactive passenger display, and a 10-inch head-up display (HUD).

All the screens work directly with the latest Uconnect 5 infotainment system. Integrated into that system is a new 1,200W McIntosh audio system with 19 speakers, including a 12-inch subwoofer.

Of course, keeping devices charged is also key to modern life. The Wagoneer offers a wireless charging pad and 2 USB-C outlets for front-seat passengers. It also has 2 USB-C outlets for second-row passengers, two 12V aux outlets, and a 115V outlet.

Jeep EV Drive Tech

That slick styling and luxury tech-filled interior wouldn’t be anything without quality BEV underpinnings. For the Wagoneer S Launch Edition, that means full-time 4WD, 600 horsepower, 617 pound-feet of torque, and a 300-plus-mile range. Expect to hit 60 mph from a standstill in just 3.4 seconds.

This electric Jeep gets “electric drive modules” (EDMs) that independently power the front and rear wheels. These modules combine the electric motor, gearing, and management electronics into compact units. To improve range and efficiency, the front EDM is equipped with wheel disconnects.

To control these modules in any condition, Jeep’s Selec-Terrain traction management system runs the show. It has five distinct drive modes: Auto, Sport, Eco, Snow, and Sand.

Besides drive modes the Wagoneer S comes with a full suite of impressive driver safety systems that we’ve all come to expect on modern vehicles. It also gets things like Active Driving Assist, Intersection Collision Assist, Drowsy Driver Detection, Traffic Sign Recognition, Surround View camera, Trailer-sway control, and the ParkSense automated parking system.

Wagoneer S can also be continuously updated with new and improved features with over-the-air (OTA) updates.

Jeep EV Charging

Of course, charging is also a key consideration with an EV. The Wagoneer S has a 400V, 100kWh, 131Ah-cell lithium-ion battery pack. It can be charged from 20% to 80% in 23 minutes — with a DC fast charger.

Included with your Wagoneer S Launch Edition purchase is a 48A Level 2 home charger, as well as public charging credits through Free2move Charge.

2024 Jeep Wagoneer S Launch Edition: Availability & Pricing

We’ll see the 2024 Jeep Wagoneer S Launch Edition hit U.S. and Canadian dealers in fall 2024. This is a global vehicle, so it will roll out to other markets soon after.

The 2024 Jeep Wagoneer S Launch Edition starts at $71,995 (including destination charge). It will also qualify for federal and state EV incentives.

Jeep Global CEO Antonio Filosa said at the Wagoneer S reveal event in NYC, “Hopefully soon (the Wagoneer S Trailhawk) will become a real product.” This comment came along with the reveal of the Jeep Wagoneer S Trailhawk Concept vehicle. Later, speaking to reporter Paul Eisenstein, Filosa said that he “expects that it will happen.”

We’ll take that as a confirmation that there will be a Trailhawk version of the Jeep Wagoneer S. Yes, that means there will soon be a Trail Rated BEV Jeep. The question, though, is if it will beat the Jeep Recon to market.
