2024 Porsche Macan Electric Offers Athletic Performance in Spacious, Compact Package

The Porsche Macan is going electric. Porsche has revealed the electric version of its smaller crossover, with up to 630 horsepower, more tech, and more cargo space than the gas model that will live alongside it.

There is an all-new architecture underneath the electric Macan. Porsche calls it PPE, for Premium Platform Electric. It is being developed along with corporate sibling Audi, and it will be used for multiple vehicles from both brands. The Macan, though, is the first.

2024 Porsche Macan EV Gets 200 HP More Than Gas

The platform has an 800V electrical system for the battery and motors. The system, along with a 100kWh battery, helps deliver up to 630 horsepower when over-boost is engaged, along with 833 pound-feet of torque. That’s nearly 200 horsepower more and double the torque of the quickest gas-powered Macan.

Porsche offers the most horsepower in what it is calling the Turbo model. There’s no turbocharger, since it is an EV, but the automaker has already said that Turbo means fast. Now it’s just a name. This Turbo is certainly quick, at least. Porsche said it can do 0-60 in 3.1 seconds.

A lower-powered and lower-priced model, the Macan 4 will have 402 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. It will hit 60 from a standstill in 4.9 seconds.

Top speeds are capped at 136 mph for the Macan 4 and 131 mph for the Turbo.

Charging the Macan EV is also fast. At a Level 3 DC fast charge station, it can suck up electrons at up to 270 kW. That’s enough to go from 10% to 80% charge in 21 minutes. The vehicle does this by splitting the charge circuits, allowing two halves of the battery to charge separately.

Macan Electric Gets Active Aero Design

The new Macan looks a lot like the old gas model but stretched upward. It’s a new design that gets cues from the Taycan electric sedan, but is still recognizably a Porsche.

What you can’t see is the body’s aerodynamic performance. The coefficient of drag is 0.25, extremely sleek for a crossover or SUV. The Macan has active aerodynamic features, including an adaptive spoiler, active intake cooling, and flexible covers underneath that all work to help the Macan slice through the air.

Thanks to the electric platform, the Macan lowers the driver and passengers compared with the gas model. The lower height helps drop the center of gravity. It also adds head and legroom, with more glass to make the cabin feel even more spacious.

Cargo space also grows. The Macan electric can hold 1.5 cubic feet more cargo in the back for a total of 18 cubic feet. It also holds 2.9 cubic feet in a new frunk. The Macan will also tow 4,409 pounds if you need it to.

Standard Air Ride and Active Shocks

Air suspension is standard, along with Porsche’s active damping suspension. Porsche didn’t talk about off-road capability for the new Macan, but the suspension is height adjustable. It should be able to give you some extra ground clearance on demand. All-wheel drive is standard, and it comes with the extra-quick responses that electric power systems allow.

The cabin starts with two large screens. There’s a 12.6-inch curved display for the driver and a 10.9-inch center infotainment display. The system uses Porsche’s new Driver Experience system that adds an augmented reality head-up display along with improved voice assistant operation. A third screen is on the options list, letting passengers help navigate or watch streaming video.

2024 Porsche Macan Electric Availability & Pricing

Order books for the 2024 Macan EV are open now, with deliveries set for the second half of this year. Range figures will be announced shortly before the model hits dealers.

The Macan 4 Electric will start from $78,800, with the Turbo Electric starting from $105,300.

It’s a bit confusing, but Porsche will also keep selling the gas models, which are a completely different vehicle — even though they look very similar. Gas Macans will be badged Macan and Macan T, S, and GTS.
