2025 Ram RHO Charges Onto the Scene as TRX Goes Extinct

While not a replacement for the almighty TRX performance truck, the 2025 Ram RHO is essentially the same truck with a smaller motor and a lower price. It is also the new off-road sport truck lineup leader at Ram.

Since 2024 is the last model year of the Hemi V8, the Ram TRX is seeing its last days. Ram isn’t ready to give up all the work it put into its apex predator sport truck, however. Let me introduce you to the 2025 Ram RHO.

While Ram adamantly says that the RHO isn’t the replacement for the TRX — which we believe and will explain — the new truck is the new performance off-road “sport” truck leader in its lineup. It is also essentially the same machine, just with a different fuel-consuming lump under the hood.

“The 2025 Ram 1500 RHO is the latest result of a relentless pursuit to engineer, design and deliver a truck that charges into the segment head down and horn up,” said Tim Kuniskis, Ram brand CEO – Stellantis. “All that we’ve learned from developing every truck in Ram’s legendary lineup has led us to the most capable light-duty pick-up truck offering the best value with more horsepower per dollar than any other off-road truck.”

New Hurricane High-Output Motor

Under the hood of the 2025 Ram RHO is the new Hurricane 3.0L high-output straight-six turbo engine. An impressive piece of hardware. It is backed by an eight-speed automatic transmission, with paddle-shifting capability.

This new motor offers up very healthy power numbers. On tap is 540 horsepower and 521 pound-feet of torque.

You can expect equally impressive performance numbers from the 2025 Ram RHO with a Hurricane engine under the hood. From a standstill, the big truck can hit 60 mph in 4.6 seconds and 100 mph in just 11.7. The quarter-mile is dispensed in just 13.1 seconds at 105 mph. And, the 2025 RHO can hit a top speed of 118 mph — which is likely limited due to the aggressive off-road tires.

Of course, the reason Ram replaced the big Hemi V8 with this lighter — by 150 pounds — I6 turbo engine is for better fuel economy and fewer emissions. We don’t know how much better yet, however. EPA ratings are yet to be published.

Not a TRX

The apex predator that is the big TRX hit the market in 2021 and is seeing its final model year now, in 2024.

The TRX impressed on many levels, especially with its growly and powerful 6.2L Hemi V8 under the hood. That big lump of a motor put out a massive 703 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque. It could motivate the big truck to 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds — barely faster than the new Hurricane-powered RHO.

The RHO is not a replacement for the TRX. Reading between the lines, from multiple statements made at a media backgrounder about the new RHO, it sounds like plans are already in motion for a proper TRX replacement to come to life soon. That replacement will likely be on the next generation of the Ram 1500 truck and have an electrified powertrain. My best guess is a hybrid system anchored by the new Hurricane engine.

So, while the TRX is leaving the lineup and the RHO is taking over the top sport truck position, the RHO isn’t expected to fill the big footprints the TRX is leaving.

Fancy Suspension

Suspension is tuned for the lighter weight front end, due to the smaller lighter engine, but otherwise unchanged from the TRX. The suspension is really what made the TRX so impressive, and likely will do so for the RHO, maybe even more so.

The setup includes retuned Bilstein Black Hawk e2 adaptive performance shocks. It also includes “enhanced” urethane jounce bumpers.

The suspension setup — with about 2 inches of lift — along with 35-inch all-terrain tires, create 11.8 inches of ground clearance. It also combines to offer 14 inches of rear suspension travel.

Wide composite fender flares allow the 35s wrapped on 18-inch (bead-lock optional) wheels to fit, and fully articulate, under this big truck. The 2025 Ram 1500 RHO is 8 inches wider overall than any other Ram light-duty truck, with a 6-inch-wider track width.

Skid plates and steel bumpers offer real protection from the bumps and bruises you can expect off-road. Also available are full-length rock rails or powder-coated aluminum running boards.

Expect a full-time 4WD system with selectable low-range. The setup can also be flat towed in neutral, which is great for RV adventures.

Of course, you also get a variety of off-road driving modes — Auto, Tow, Mud/Sand, Rock, Snow, Sport, Baja, Custom, and Valet. Also standard on RHO is Launch Control, at the touch of a button. Also expect a full-floating Dana 60 rear axle and rear selectable e-locker.

All that beefy equipment equates to 8,380 pounds of towing capacity and a max payload of 1,520 pounds. The truck can also ford up to 32 inches of water.

A Level 2+ “Hands-free Driving Assist” system is available on RHO. It offers hands-off automated driving and lane-centering on approved roadways.

Inside the Ram RHO

You’ll find a very similar interior in the RHO as you did in the TRX. But, you’ll get a few new features.

Available on the 2025 RHO is over 50 inches of digital screens. That includes a 14.5-inch touchscreen, 12.3-inch digital cluster, an up to 10-inch full-color Head Up Display (HUD), and a new optional 10.25-inch passenger screen.

As with any new vehicle, you’ll get a lot of ways to charge your devices. This includes the expected USB outlets, but also includes dual, vertical wireless charging pads.

The sound system should be pretty spectacular as well. It’s a Harmon Kardon system that features 900 watts, 19 speakers, and a 10-inch subwoofer.

2025 Ram RHO Pricing & Availability

With pricing starting at just $69,995 (plus $1,995 destination), the 2025 Ram RHO is quite the off-road sport truck value. Consider the 2024 Ram TRX starts at $98,580. And, the 2024 Ford F-150 Raptor starts at $78,330, but quickly climbs to over $112K when you option the supercharged V8 under the hood.

Expect to see 2025 Ram RHOs in U.S. dealers this summer. Build out your RHO online, find a dealer near you, and place your order now at RamTrucks.com.

For 2025, the Ram off-road truck lineup is strong with options. It all starts with the light-duty 1500 Warlock, Rebel, and RHO trucks. Then, if you need more truck to do more truck things, then you have the heavy-duty 2500 Rebel and Power Wagon options.
