As the company’s largest-yet ReBird Service Center, the new store will offer product repairs, education, re-waterproofing, and other services.

The American economy has long operated on a “take-make-waste” model. The term refers to a system in which goods are often bought new, used briefly, then tossed as soon as they tear or show a slight problem.

To shift toward a more circular and sustainable economic model, Arc’teryx just opened its largest-ever service center in Boulder, Colo. It’s the first of four new service centers planned for this year. Additional stores will open in Tokyo, Marunouchi, Beijing, and Vancouver before the end of 2022.

Arc’teryx ReBird Service Centers

As a hybrid model, the new locations combine traditional retail with services for assessing, repairing, and reselling products. Arc’teryx calls them ReBird Service Centers.

The brand said, “ReBird is an organization-wide commitment to shift away from a take-make-waste economy by continuously seeking to adopt and evolve a circular way of operating. It also contributes to the brand’s targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions intensity by 65% by 2030.”

Arc’teryx’s Boulder location represents only the second such center in the U.S. and the third in the world for the outdoor apparel company.

Situated on Boulder’s historic Pearl Street, the store “will act as a hub for the mountain athlete and community in Arc’teryx’s first foray into the city,” the company said in a news release.

“Arc’teryx’s ReBird platform encourages clients to wear their gear for as long as humanly possible,” ReBird VP Dominique Showers said in the release.

A Commitment to Keeping Gear Alive

Arc’teryx’s ReBird program follows three pillars: upcycling, resale, and care and repair. To that end, the center offers a full suite of services, including complimentary onsite product assessment.

It will also help customers learn how to best maintain their equipment, as well as washing GORE-TEX products, and re-waterproofing. Additional services include GORE-TEX leak testing, zipper repairs, buckle replacements, and even color options for replacing fabric. The store can also fix adhesive patches and heat-pressed internal patches.

“The teams have been able to resolve the majority of repair needs on-site for guests and educate them on how best to care for their gear to give it the longest life possible,” Showers said.

“The Boulder location also offers a GORE washing station — allowing us to provide the simplest but most effective service to help keep the piece in play.”

More Arc’teryx Locations Coming Soon

As the second Arc’teryx store in Colorado, the company also wants its Boulder location to serve as a community hub. That means connecting people through climbing gym nights, film screenings, and group runs.

The new store offers about 4,700 square feet of space, with 400 of that dedicated to the service center. Arc’teryx also plans to open two more stores in Colorado by the end of the year.
