What comes to mind when you hear the words “Gray Ghost?” Is it a classic episode of every millennial’s favorite bat-themed TV show? A misty morning spent paddling off Maine’s rocky coast? A storied fly pattern with roots deep in New England’s waterways?
Venerable watercraft brand Old Town is hoping it’s the latter two. To celebrate its 125th birthday, Old Town launched limited editions of five Sportsman Line models. The fishing-specific kayaks are now available in a two-tone gray-and-dark-gray color accented by orange accents including Old Town’s iconic logo.
The colors are meant to invoke the brand’s long history in New England. In particular, the name is an homage to celebrated Maine fly tier Carrie Stevens’ famous Grey Ghost Streamer fly pattern.
“The Gray Ghost is more than just a color,” said Alex Sherbinow, the Watercraft Marketing Manager at Old Town parent company Johnson Outdoors, in a press release. “This limited edition release celebrates our Maine heritage and legacy of craftsmanship, as we continue to propel Old Town into the future through innovative and industry-leading watercraft design.”
Also in the spirit of its 125 years, Old Town made 125 of each available model. Each limited-edition boat comes with a certificate of authenticity, and carries a stamp with an identifying number.
Available options are:
