As part of a larger publication redesign, SNEWS, a leader in outdoor industry business-to-business journalism, has done away with its longstanding name. Here’s what you need to know.
Back in January, SNEWS teased that it would soon change the name of its publication. “For 37 years, SNEWS has been delivering outdoor industry news, trends, opinions, and analysis and I’m excited to announce that in the next few months, we will be rebranding and launching a new website,” its staff wrote in January.
That new name is finally here. On a livestream today, SNEWS announced that the publication is now Outside Business Journal.
“This is the first time the name and logo, Outside, will be used for a trade B2B media outlet,” SNEWS wrote in a press release.
The publication is a major online outlet for press releases and B2B news for the outdoor industry. It’s also the editorial muscle behind the semiannual trade magazine, The Voice.
SNEWS Name History
According to the publication, the name SNEWS (pronounced “snooze”) was short for “specialty news.” With its new name, Outside Business Journal (which we will use to refer to the publication going forward) hopes to refresh its standing among industry publications.
“Our new name will better — and more clearly — reflect the totality of what we do: cover all aspects of the outdoor industry with deep, balanced reporting,” editorial director Kristin Hostetter wrote. “Rebranding is always a challenge.”
Outside Business Journal’s rebrand comes on the heels of its parent company, formerly Pocket Outdoor Media, changing its name to “Outside” after acquiring Outside Magazine. The move further brings Outside’s holdings in line with the new media brand.
As part of the update, Outside Business Journal said it will also roll out a new website and improved press release interface as well.
