Transition Bikes added another arrow to its quiver today with the announcement of the Smuggler. The 29-inch, full-suspension Swiss Army knife tackles uphills, downhills, and XC singletrack with equal aplomb.
Transition designed the Smuggler to fill a gap in its lineup. The Spur is a lightweight climber with 120 mm of travel up front, while the Sentinel is a hard-charging all-arounder with 160mm forks. And the Smuggler sits right in the middle.
“A highly progressive leverage curve and comfortable, confidence-inspiring geo make it eager to keep going mile after mile while remaining surefooted in even the most technical terrain. Sitting squarely between the Spur and Sentinel in travel, geometry, and capability, it shares qualities of both,” Transition said in a press release.
Transition Smuggler Specs and Features
So what does that mean in principle? The Transiton Smuggler sports 140 mm of travel in the front and 130 mm in the rear. The frame can accommodate tires up to 29 x 2.5 inches.
A redesigned headtube with integrated bearing cups “allows the frame to have super clean cable ports at the front of the headtube with fully guided internal cable routing from the headtube to the port above the bottom bracket shell. From there, cables cleanly enter the rear triangle hidden from view,” according to Transition.
The Smuggler comes in five carbon and alloy builds, with the carbon frameset with shock running at $3,699. The top-of-the-line model comes in at $8,499. There are five frame sizes available, from small to extra-extra large. In size medium and with shock, the frame weighs a claimed 6.6 pounds.
Transition has two colors to choose from: a jaunty purplish-red called “Orchid” and a more subdued brown the brand calls “Espresso.”
