CYCLE: Rapha Bolsters Female Athlete Roster, Creates Women’s-Specific Channel. Rapha has signed three major female cyclists to its collective, adding Lael Wilcox and Sarah Sturm (and Maghalie Rochette, who signed in 2020). To help amplify the voices of women cyclists, Rapha also created a women’s-specific social media channel.
RACE: Duluth Sled Dog Marathon Runs Despite Pandemic. “Social distancing isn’t hard when you’re racing a 300-mile trail,” wrote the Star Tribune. The John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon in Duluth, Minn., will mush on despite COVID-19. The race began yesterday. The top eight competitors of the marathon and mid-distance races will split a $20,000 purse.
FITNESS: Life Time Kicks Off 2021 With Database of Over 1,000 Classes. Life Time announced today that it hit a record-breaking lineup of “more than 1,000 yoga, cycle and strength/cardio classes each week.” Life Time classes are available at Life Time fitness clubs and online to Life Time digital subscribers.
WINTER: North Pole Season Canceled. The North Pole season at the Barneo Ice Camp has been canceled, polar guide Eric Philips told ExplorersWeb. This is the third season that teams won’t be able to travel to the North Pole. The coronavirus reached the North Pole in August 2020, and Antarctica had its first case in December.
DONATE: Ascent Protein Donates to Service Dogs for Veterans Organization. This week, Ascent Protein announced a $22,000 donation to Patriot PAWS, a nonprofit service organization dedicated to training service dogs to aid and support veterans.
The Denver-based brand Ascent also partnered with Colorado-native runner Christian McCaffrey to launch a Veterans Day campaign, pledging to donate 20% of Ascent profits to Patriot PAWS.
