OLYMPICS: 17-Year-Old Claims Title as First Female on US Team for Slalom Canoe. Evy Leibfarth, 17, will get to compete in Tokyo in slalom canoe and kayak after winning a K1W spot and C1W spot this past week.

After the Olympics were pushed due to the pandemic, she’ll finally get to compete this year. In 2019, Leibfarth became the youngest and first American woman to qualify the U.S. for a spot in slalom canoe at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

RUN: Des Linden Breaks 50K World Record. Long-distance running champ Des Linden broke the world record for a 50K last week, running the distance in 2:59:54, beating the previous women’s world record by over 7 minutes.

RESCUE: Mountain Biker Falls Head First Off Cliff, Rescued by LA Sheriffs. A mountain biker fell off a dirt road near Mt. Wilson in Angeles National Forest on Thursday, requiring a precarious rescue.

He was found “[hanging upside down] with only a thin cord around his ankle, tied to a bicycle his brother was sitting on” hundreds of feet off the ground, L.A. authorities reported.

The L.A. Sheriffs Department has not released the man’s identity, and the man reported no injuries.

CLIMB: The North Face Unveils Official Olympic Uniforms for Tokyo 2021. Outfitting athletes from the U.S., Japan, South Korea, and Austria, The North Face‘s kit provides “an experience unlike anything climbing athletes have seen previously.”

The climbing uniforms feature a stretch fabric with laser-cut perforations, bonded seams, underarm gussets, and a sleeveless design, all created using 4D printing. The North Face global athletes Ashima Shiraishi and Nathaniel Coleman helped design the uniform.

PARK: Celebrate National Park Week With the NPS, April 17-25. Just in time for National Park Week, the National Park Service (NPS) has launched its first mobile app.

Created by park rangers, the mobile NPS platform “gives the public up-to-date information about all 423 national parks in one easy-to-use app.”
