Not all public lands are easy to get to. Hunter Jason Matzinger pairs up with onX Hunt to bring light to this often-unheard story in a new documentary.

Nearly 16.5 million acres of inaccessible public land exist in 22 states. Through a program developed by onX Hunt and the Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership, millions more will be documented.

Project Landlocked” is now a few years in the making. And the number of public lands without easy access keeps going up.

A 40-minute documentary, produced and developed by Jason Matzinger, interweaves the story of these inaccessible places and a 2020 elk hunt on an island, accessible only by helicopter.

For those involved in uncovering these lands, the point is not just to knowledge their existence. A concerted effort is being made legislatively to create solutions for access through the MapLAND Act. It will democratize the knowledge of inaccessible lands, easements, and seasonal access points that are often hard to suss out.

The film is a great watch for anyone trying to understand more about public lands and access. At under an hour, it’s the perfect educational, entertaining lunch break content.
