Kampgrounds Of America is offering thousands of dollars to fund people’s dream adventures. And you could be eligible.
KOA wants to know how you’d finish the sentence, “Wouldn’t it be great if …” And if that means an outdoor adventure you’ve been dreaming about, you could receive up to $5,000 to make it happen.
Launched this year, KOA’s “Get Out There” grants will help fund getaways, grand or simple, that get people outside doing something that’s otherwise out of reach.
“This isn’t just about camping,” said Mike Gast, vice president of communications at KOA. “The grants will entertain any outside adventure, from solo cliff climbing or hang gliding – on the extreme side – to a group of senior citizen college buddies who want to do a hike of a lifetime. Nothing is off limits.”
Entry is open now, with awards going out this summer.
KOA ‘Get Out There’ Grants
This marks the first year KOA will award Get Out There grants. But Gast told us KOA expects the program to “go on for the foreseeable future.”
Awards range from $1,000 to $5,000 per person. So, if your dream adventure involves you and four friends, your group stands to receive up to $25,000.
Specifics on judging are – well – not so specific. And that’s because KOA isn’t limiting what constitutes a “dream adventure.”
According to the Get Out There information page, “It might be a chance to reconnect with those you love. It might be something you can do for someone else facing their own life challenges.”
The main criteria KOA outlines for a qualifying adventure are as follows: Up until now, it’s always been beyond your reach. While on your adventure to anywhere in the U.S. or Canada, you’ll build unforgettable memories in the outdoors.
Beyond that, it’s up to you. And the best part is there’s no limit on the number of winners.
“It really depends on how many our grant selection committee feels hit the mark and are worth funding,” Gast told us.
Entry is open now until June 22, with winners notified by July 6. To enter, you must be a U.S. or Canadian resident and at least 18 years old by the entry deadline.
And if you’re wondering if you have the right adventure in mind – follow KOA’s advice: “Remember, it could be anything. All you can do is ask.”
