Two major projects collided last week in Salt Lake City, where the twice-annual Outdoor Retailer Trade Show took place. We had six editors and reporters on the scene to make daily reports and hunt for the best to-be-released gear for 2015.

The circumstance included a rendezvous at the Buck Knives booth and a cameo from Cabela’s video team to capture content for our ‘Day Of The Knife’ project. We grabbed a short video (see below) and took a closer look at the Buck Knives line.

Most impressive were the “skeletal” blades Buck showed off (see the video) and its new Compadre Series of blades. We covered the Compadre is a preview post last month, “‘Red Steel’ Series Coming From Buck Knives.”

Compadre chopping froe from Buck

In the hand at the Buck booth, the solid, wood-handled Compadre pieces proved to be among the most impressive blades at OR. My favorite was the machete-like chopping froe above.

Goal Zero, an additional sponsor of ‘Day Of The Knife,’ contributed a short video message as well, highlighting its Sherpa 50 portable power pack. The brand is one of several DOTK sponsors who contributed prizes to the project.

See more about how you can nab the Goal Zero product, Buck Knives, Cabela’s gift cards, and other gear at our ‘Day Of The Knife’ microsite.

The DOTK project runs through August 22, 2014, the official “Day Of The Knife,” where reader voting will choose a winner in the “Your Knife Story” competition to receive a grand prize package valued at more than $4K and including copious swag from Cabela’s and a spread from Buck Knives.
