Mystery Ranch has released new military-style ‘assault’ backpacks. They’re camo and durable — and you don’t need to go to boot camp to use them.
Some of us still fondly remember visiting the military surplus store to buy cheap but well-made camping gear. Now, of course, we have companies like Mystery Ranch to make military-themed gear for consumer purchase.
The Montana-based company’s latest offering includes two “assault” backpacks called the Gunfighter SB. Mystery Ranch said it spent 5 years developing the packs based on customer feedback. The Gunfighter SB, or Special Blend, focuses on “everyday needs,” whether that’s hunting, hiking, or completing the mission.
Both of the packs come with a “rip-zip style opening for quick access when time is of the essence,” the company said. They also have many pockets for either daily-driver gear or additional magazines.
The packs come in two colors: Black Multicam (camo) and Coyote (beige).
The Gunfighter 24 SB
The larger of the two pack options, the Gunfighter 24 SB weighs just 2.6 pounds. It offers a minimalist design. With dimensions of 21.25 x 10.25 x10.25 inches, it’s meant for shorter missions, according to Mystery Ranch.
The Gunfighter 24 includes a top zipper port for antennae, cables, and hydration access. It has an external detail pocket for documents or ID as well as stretch-woven pockets on the outside.
Pocket-lovers will find plenty to enjoy here, with another larger outer pocket and two internal zip mesh pockets. The pack also gets D-rings for securing the zippers and Velcro for identification and patches.
The pack sells for $300.
The Gunfighter 14 SB
As the smaller cousin, the Gunfighter 14 SB drops a little over half a pound, weighing in right at 2 pounds. Its dimensions are 16.75 x 10.25 x 9.25 inches, but it offers all the same features as its larger counterpart.
The Gunfighter 14 SB sells for $255.
If you’re looking for a durable daypack — and you love camo — the Gunfighters fit the bill.
