You’ll never have to choose between gear and groceries again.” Those are words every gear junkie loves to hear. And those are words to live by with Backcountry.com’s new Department of Goods Web site, which this winter is giving away a purported $200,000 worth in free gear! (Details below.)

The new site — which launched in beta version for “VIP’s” this week — won’t be fully open until January. You’ll find much of the same gear as you see now on BackcountryOutlet because, well, it’s nearly the same site. Just better.

The new site features an incredible gear stash that’s at a hefty discount. It also has a couple things BackcountryOutlet was missing: A plethora of bike and action-sports gear.

If you’re lucky, you’ll get a VIP code to get inside the virtual door before its grand opening. For those elite gear whores, the Department of Goods, as noted above, is giving away a purported $200,000 worth in gear!.

The swag ranges from socks to multi-tools to bikes. Those entered for a chance at the free stuff must order more than $50 worth of gear from the site. (The exact company verbiage is: “A set number of first comers who place orders over $50 will be matched with a surprise prize from a bona fide grab bag of swag.”)

Bonus: One in every 10 purchases on the site will be comped randomly. That means free. www.departmentofgoods.com
