The Gear Junkie is off to Mexico this week to pursue a couple adventure-travel stories for New York Times. Specifically, he’ll be swimming in the Yucatan’s underground lakes (called cenotes) and visiting the Sian Ka’an preserve, a huge track of wilderness on the coast south of Tulum.
Sian Ka’an, which was briefly noted in this month’s National Geographic Adventure magazine, is a little-known national park with jungle, swamps, coastline, and 23 archeological sites.
The Gear Junkie will sea kayak in the preserve on ancient trade routes through lagoons and mangrove channels.
