The Ikon Pass family has grown again with the addition of Sierra-at-Tahoe to its mountain destinations. For the 2024/25 season, Ikon pass holders will now have the option to visit six different mountain resorts throughout California. This most recent addition brings the total number of Ikon pass destinations to 60.
“Sierra-at-Tahoe is proud to partner with Ikon Pass. As the only South Lake Tahoe resort on the Ikon Pass, we’re excited to give skiers and riders a new opportunity to visit our slice of heaven,” John Rice, general manager of Sierra-at-Tahoe, said in a press release. “Sierra has long been known for its always-friendly vibe and terrain variety.”
Now, Ikon pass holders will have 7 days at Sierra-at-Tahoe on their passes. Ikon Base pass holders will have 5 days (with select blackout dates). It will also be available on the “Ikon Session Pass,” which offers 2, 3, or 4 days at select Ikon mountain destinations.
“From wide open bowls, fresh fall lines, and the big mountain feel Huckleberry Canyon offers, to award-winning terrain parks that inspire progression and have helped create Olympic champions, the Ikon Pass community is sure to find everything that makes Sierra-at-Tahoe special,” Rice said.
Welcome to the Ikon Family, Sierra-at-Tahoe
Sierra-at-Tahoe is on the south shore of Lake Tahoe and is the closest ski resort to Sacramento. It has 14 lifts, six terrain parks, 2,000 skiable acres, and well over 400 inches of annual snowfall. It is a family-oriented resort: 25% of its terrain is beginner, 50% is intermediate, and 25% is advanced.
But it isn’t without formidable terrain. Huckleberry Canyon is one of the biggest attractions at Sierra-at-Tahoe for experienced skiers. Access to the area is through backcountry gates at the top of the mountain. Its terrain is classified as “Extremely Challenging” and for “Experts Only.” And the skiing back there is legendary among locals, according to the resort.
“Huckleberry Canyon offers fresh tracks even weeks after a storm. This steep, deep adventure zone is the stuff adrenaline is made of — one of Tahoe’s best-kept secrets,” the Sierra-at-Tahoe website describes.
Adding Sierra-at-Tahoe to the Ikon family means that passholders can now access resorts on both sides of Lake Tahoe. Ikon added Palisades Tahoe to its list of destinations ahead of the 2020/21 ski season.
Currently, the full Ikon pass is available for $1,360, and the Base Pass is $970. Ikon has not yet released a date for when the price will go up again, but it is typically in mid-October. The company said it usually announces the date 2 weeks ahead of time. Purchasing yours before then saves cash and locks you in for a great ski season.
