According to Nikolai Schirmer in Topside, ‘the Chamonix slackcountry is everything but slack.’

This episode of Topside opens on the French-Italian border of Mont Blanc. The wind is howling. You can hear the slight crunch as two skiers steadily bootpack up the spine of a peak. On either side of them, the Earth drops thousands of feet, far below.

In episode 2 of Topside, skier Nikolai Schirmer gives us a look at the early season on the Aiguilles d’Entrèves, circa December 2022. The snow looks great and the terrain looks absolutely epic.

And the skiing ain’t too shabby, either. Follow along, on the uphill “powder train,” with a few local Chamonix legends, plus Schirmer. There are good reasons why skiing the face of the Aiguilles d’Entrèves was on Shirmer’s bucket list. Topside is a glimpse into what makes this region such a skiing hub.

Does Topside make you wish you were skiing Mont Blanc, Chamonix? Or really anywhere in France? Us too.
