In this episode of ‘The FIFTY Ski Project,’ Cody Townsend skis a classic line on Utah’s Mt. Timpanogos.

The episode opens with two skiers chatting about avalanche risk and weather. Cody Townsend decides to join up with Drew Peterson and Mali Noyes from Utah to attempt a line called Cold Fusion.

Cold Fusion is in the mountain’s main avalanche path, which usually poses some risk. But the stars and skies aligned for Townsend. The skiers kept track of the storms and tested for stable snowpack on the way up the mountain to confirm safe conditions.

The ascent route has 4,500 feet of vertical gain over 8.7 miles. But it’s worth every penny once the group gets to the top. There’s a sunny view and gorgeous, wide-open slopes.

But toward the bottom, the trail gets a little hairy. There are a few rocks and more than a few trees. Still, the line looks like a great combo of hard work and fun. You can tune in to the full series here.

“The FIFTY” is a project following Cody Townsend as he attempts to climb and ski all 50 of the lines and mountains chronicled in the book “Fifty Classic Ski Descents of North America.”
