Gear up for serious winter fun with reliable winter safety. If you haven’t purchased a new avi beacon recently, ORTOVOX has a deal worth checking out.

For the second year straight, the German mountain equipment brand is accepting any old beacons in exchange for a $75 purchase credit toward its 3+ beacon. The deal is valid until April 15, 2018, but snow is just starting to fall, so now’s the time.

ORTOVOX Beacon Trade-In

Here’s how it works: Check ORTOVOX’s store locator to see if there’s a dealer near you. If not, the trade-in works by mail as well – just contact the nearest store.

Bring or send in your old transceiver, and ORTOVOX will recycle it. Not sure if you should trade in your beacon? Check out Avalanche Canada’s obsolete gear criteria here.

In general, dual-frequency, single-antenna transceivers without a visual display should be retired.

“If you have an analog single-antenna, or even digital, double-antenna transceiver, now’s the chance to get your buddies off your back,” said Tom Mason, ORTOVOX brand manager. “Friends don’t let friends carry vintage beacons.”

And if you’re ready to upgrade, you’ll receive credit toward the purchase of an ORTOVOX triple-antenna 3+ digital beacon if you trade in the relic through this promotion.

ORTOVOX 3+ Beacon

ORTOVOX offers the $339 3+ beacon ($264 with trade-in) for old transceivers. It uses three antennas, automatically selecting the best transmission antenna in an emergency.

The 3+ emits both audio and visual signals to aid rescuers. And it has an automatic secondary avalanche switchover feature, changing from search to transmit if it doesn’t detect motion for 120 seconds.

Don’t become a statistic. Ensure your safety gear is in good working order, replace it when necessary, and educate yourself on basic avalanche safety.
