Titus Adventure Updates ‘Mobile Ski Lodge’ With Fleet of 4x4s

Launched in 2019 to combat traffic on Colorado’s I-70 corridor and the costs of owning a 4×4 vehicle, Titus Adventure Company recently retooled its fleet of rental vehicles.

Located in Denver, owner Travis Titus launched Titus Adventure Company in summer 2019 with a fleet of three Toyota adventure rigs. Since then, the company’s been dubbed “the Uber of overlanding.”

As ski lodges across Colorado face pandemic challenges, Titus wants the trucks to become the new ski lodge, especially as adventurers are more likely to remain near home for travel amidst the pandemic.

The Titus Adventure Company has a winter rental package for skiers and riders looking to explore the high country by creating a safe, warm, and fully stocked base camp experience, all while social distancing and enjoying some amazing winter recreation.

Currently, the company’s four vehicles include plenty of extras to make turning the rigs into a base camp a logical progression.

Each 4WD vehicle includes a combo of ski and snowboard racks, snow tires, a snow shovel, headlamp, Rumpl blankets, YETI products, a portable propane fire pit, a camp table and chairs, Coleman stove with cookware, a heated ski boot bag, and electric handwarmers. A rooftop tent provides overnight, personalized accommodations.

Titus started his company to reduce automobile crowding in and around Denver. He wanted to eliminate the need to own a less fuel-efficient vehicle while helping ensure only the safest vehicles venture onto the I-70 corridor.

Research shows that most fans of skiing and snowboarding — regardless of what type of vehicle they drive daily — only venture into the high country an average of five times per year. The rental option solves that impracticality, Titus said. He also said they encourage off-peak travel, with discounts for midweek use.

And studies show that vehicles remain responsible for 15% of all carbon emissions globally. Titus Adventure Company says shared vehicle ownership or rentals help reduce Front Range congestion and pollution. Plus, they make it more affordable for people to get out and live the overlanding lifestyle.

A Safer Alternative to Typical Lodging?

You can rent these vehicles for anywhere from $160 to $220, with occasional discounts throughout the season. Vehicles sleep anywhere from two to four people, with the utility of the added rooftop tents.

“We know this will be an unusual ski and ride season for a number of reasons, including new restrictions imposed by resorts and record-breaking participation in backcountry sports,” said Titus.

“With ski lodge occupation and food services limited, plus a need to stay socially distant, we wanted to give everyone an opportunity to still enjoy lunch and apres with their friends and family, all while accessing their favorite ski and ride locations in a safe, capable, and comfortable four-wheel-drive vehicle.”
