Danner Trail 2650 Mesh Hiking Shoe — Women’s: $170

This is Danner’s modern take on trail shoes, and it has become enough of a favorite that the brand offers several variants on this Trail 2650. This lace-up hiking sneaker is designed for a variety of terrain that one might encounter backpacking the Pacific Crest Trail, which is 2,650 miles long and the inspiration for the name.

Sneaker elements include the breathable mesh upper, an EXO Heel, and a removable Ortholite footbed. To address stability and protection underfoot, Danner gave these a Trailguard shank with its Ultralight PlyoGo midsole. Lastly, the Vibram rubber sole is said to provide traction on rocky trails.

That material is also stretchy, which adds to the loose-fit design to keep the shorts from getting in the way.
