Bombas Pays It Forward

Before we get into the socks, let’s take a closer look at Bombas. Baked into the brand’s business model is its “one purchased = one donated” mission. For every Bombas item purchased, another is donated to the homeless community.

According to Bombas, the brand began this mission because socks are one of the most-requested items in American homeless shelters. Since its launch in 2013, the brand has included its shirts and underwear in its donations and says it has donated more than 50 million items.

Bombas Features

The job of socks is to protect your feet from rubbing against your footwear. Beyond that, they’re at their best when you forget they’re there. Common pitfalls for socks include bulky fits, seams rubbing on toes or ankles, overheating, and other annoyances.

Bombas aims to minimize these discomforts. First, the brand contours its socks to fit left and right feet, which can reduce issues caused by excess material. The socks have a knit stitch to avoid bumps under the toes, blister tabs, honeycomb arch support, and Y-stiched heels to avoid bunching behind the ankle.

The materials and their weave create uneven crosshatches in the middle of the foot. Bombas calls this Hex Tec, and it’s designed to allow hot air to escape and cool air to move in around your feet. It should also reduce the chance your socks collect foot sweat.

From there, it applies zones of greater cushioning to areas prone to higher impact or friction. Bombas utilizes different materials and shapes its socks for specific activities — and even just everyday wear.

Bombas minimized the seams here too, kept off any tags, and built a waistband meant to stay in place and prevent rolling up or digging into your waist. All Bombas women’s underwear comes in inclusive sizing. (These particular ones come in XS to 2X.)
