Wear it, lie on it, or tuck it under your head, this multi-function puffy claims to keep you, and your beverage, dry.

Rumpl, the popular camp blanket and pillow manufacturer, launched its first piece of rain gear today. At first glance, the Original Puffy Poncho looks like a cozy, if bizarre marriage of its trademark down quilts and a hooded rain cloak.

But with four distinct functions and few unexpected features, it might be the brand’s most versatile piece of gear yet.

Rumpl Original Puffy Poncho

In poncho mode, the Original Puffy Poncho has a hood, sleeves, and front face zipper.

As with its blankets, Rumpl uses 20D ripstop nylon with DWR treatment for the face fabric. But the Original Puffy Poncho has waterproof nylon construction along the shoulders and hood to repel rainfall. We’re not sure how this would work in a full-blown downpour, but for light rain in cool weather this could be a cozy piece of gear.

The puffy carries 150g 3D hollow polyester fill to keep you warm. It’s not as warm or compressible as down, but will be nice on cool nights during shoulder seasons and insulates when wet.

Rumpl also added some helpful, and some quirky features, to the wearable. It has zippered hand pockets, a keyring loop, and headphone port. But best of all, it has a can (beer) carrier pocket in front.

The Original Puffy Poncho also packs into itself to act as a pillow. And true to its roots, its big enough to lay flat as a blanket (size large measures 36″ x 72″).

The 1.5-lb. puffy is machine washable and available now on Kickstarter. Units will ship by December and retail for $159. Early-bird backer discounts are available.
